Urban Information Center of Kobe
(AUICK) is an international
organization, based in
Japan. It was established in 1989
with the support of the United
Population Fund (UNFPA)
City Government, with the
purpose of building extensive information and human networks
cities in Asia, to assist in the resolution of population
urbanization-related issues. AUICK projects focus
city officials, providing technical support and disseminating web-based
published information. AUICK also works with the World
Organization (WHO) Centre for

hold a Workshop on Population Ageing and Appropriate Measures with the
support of WHO Kobe Centre, in March 2015.
Participants will be senior officials in charge of policies
for the care and active participation of older citizens in
the AUICK Associate Cities. They will share information and
best practices, before making Action Plans to address
the challenges faced by their cities.
The overall aim of the Workshop is to improve the services and programs
for the welfare of older citizens in developing cities.

anniversary of AUICK, Kobe City Government held a forum
to review projects for international cooperation.
Keynote speakers included Mr.
Alex Ross, Director of the
Health Organization Centre for Health Development, and Dr. Kiyoko
Ikegami, former Director of
the United Nations Population Fund
presented on AUICK's 25-year history and took part in a
panel discussion on strategies to
promote future collaboration with international organizations.

partnership with the Nishi-Shimin Hospital and Kobe Nursing
College, the Kobe International Center for Cooperation and
Communication (KIC) periodically dispatches teams of nurses from Kobe
City to Danang in Vietnam, to establish a training
midwives at a new 600-bed maternal and child health care
Under the three-year Technical Support Project, started by
AUICK and supported by the
Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA), Vietnamese nurses also visit their counterparts
Training-of-Trainers (ToT) courses. The sixth of these courses was held
for senior nurses from 11 to 20 November, 2014.
AUICK / WHO Kobe Centre Urban HEART Workshop
- Safe Water and Sanitation
AUICK and the WHO
Centre for Health Development (Kobe) held the 2014 Urban HEART Workshop
on Safe Water and Sanitation, from 27 to 31 January.
The workshop was arranged for officials in charge of
sanitation services of six cities in Asia to learn strategies
increasing service provision to poorer populations.
After sharing information on the challenges faced by their
participants received training by AUICK and WHO Kobe
officials on how to make Action Plans based on the lessons of the
Workshop. The plans will be implemented in
respective cities, and their progress monitored by AUICK over
AUICK Associate Cities represented at the meeting were Chittagong
Penh (Cambodia), Surabaya (Indonesia), Olongapo (Philippines), Khon
Kaen (Thailand) and Danang (Vietnam).
